Austin celebrated his birthday with a dose of Benedryl, which may have been fun for him, but it was pretty boring for his Uncle Pete, who was in the Bay Area on a business trip. Yes, Austin's cold has advanced into his chest and his doctor suggested we give him some Benedryl before it gets worse. One day soon, David will be able to treat our son so we don't have to resort to such measures, but just not quite yet.

Uncle Pete drove down from Petaluma with a carload of presents for Austin. Not surprisingly, he was originally more interested in the decorative tissue paper, but I think after we assemble his gifts they will fascinate him as well. Thanks, Uncle Pete (AND Aimee AND Nicole AND Stacy)!

After feeding Pete a vegetable soup, a silly thing to serve a Texan..what was I thinking?....we took him to Cafe Trieste, which was even weirder than usual. Pete took it all in stride, recognizing Trieste for what it is, a little bit of coffee heaven on Earth.

I tried to take a picture of Pete and Austin but due to our technological limitations, all the pictures were very blurry. They looked like they were both racing around like the roadrunner, which just was not a accurate depiction of our night. Yes, that is a picture of what you think it is...which would be Austin's umbilical cord.
