Usually it's Tammy the cat that eats like a pig and then throws up but just now, Nekko the cat came in and inhaled a bowl of cat food. She was chewing on the exhale, which let me tell you, just sounds weird.

Austin has had a fever all day and because he does not feel good apparently neither David nor myself should feel good either. I think Austin spent most of the day either being held, being nursed or gesturing at yogurt in the fridge that he did not want to eat. At one point today we almost took the little man to the emergency room but as soon as we had changed his diaper, put clothes on him, put clothes on us, found assorted forms of I.D. and then got his shoes on, about seven or so hours had passed and his temperature was down and he actually wanted to play on the floor without being held. So we took off our shoes, managed to misplace our assorted forms of I.D's, thought about changing his diaper but then thought the better of it and just let him play. Besides, I have just inheirited about $800 worth of wool and cashmere cardigans from a woman who more than likely belongs to Cardigans Anonymous and felt compelled to give them away. I had sweaters to try on.

Austin loves playing with his wooden alphabet blocks. The blocks are good for holding, stacking and throwing...throwing being one of his more developed motor skills. He is so good at throwing, old grumpy men at Cafe Trieste who think it's un-masculine to say hello to a little baby will stop whatever insane conversation they are having to comment on Austin's arm. Not the left arm or the right arm particularly, just whatever arm he is throwing something with. "The kid's got a good arm", is the usual thing they grunt while rustling the paper they are pretending to read so they don't have to make eye contact with me or my son. The only comment I have for the cranky old timers is that Austin has TWO good arms and to top it off, TWO good legs as well. I feel that the simplicity in that statement is stunning and should put anybody in his or her place who ever thought otherwise.

Even though I feel so strongly about the one armed comment, I think David may think otherwise. Today while he was playing on the floor with our little two armed bandit, he suddenly ducked and put his arms over his head. Austin had started throwing blocks and had hit David so hard with a block last time that my usually calm and collected husband (at least outwardly) lost his cool and dove for cover. Relatives, please keep this little story in mind when you invite us to visit.
