Complaining to your co-workers that my posts have been too short lately? Well you can stop your yapping. Here's an explanation.

That's because I am tired. For those of you who don't know me, I do have a job, and in between taking David's cat to the vet and picking up Austin from school, I happen to make my living practicing the almost ancient art of grocery-ing. That's right, I work in a grocery store. Better than that, I work in the cheese part of a fancy grocery store. And even better than that, my job is to purchase all the fancy cheese (and other fancy food items) for the fancy store. In other words, the mother of Austin is a cheesemonger in a grocery store. A cheesemonger-ing grocer. A grocery-ing cheesemonger.

Now, look at your calendar. If you are in the United States and are not some sort of a non-holiday celebrating grump, my bets are that either you have already visited your local grocer and have stuffed your freezer full of things that should never go in that iceburned smelly hell-hole (cheese and steak come to mind)..Or you will soon be visiting some sort of market, investing in all sorts of fatty ingredients that make our little bellies so happy. Believe it or not, many people buy cheese to put on their Thanksgiving table. So much cheese in fact that we have started hoarding vast amounts of this little lactic package of joy already just so you may have some for your holiday spread. In other words, my work has been very busy.

Lastly, did you ever wonder who moves those 70 or 80 pound wheels of cheese around? Who makes those lovely displays? Who cuts the Parmigiano Reggiano by hand with a chisel? In my store, it is often me. In other words, my back hurts.

IN OTHER WORDS I AM TIRED, CRANKY, VAGUELY INJURED IN ONE LEG FROM LIFTING A 65 POUND WHEEL OF ORGANIC REGGIANO, WORRIED ABOUT SQUISHING THINGS IN THE WALK-IN, I HAVE A REALLY GROSS COUGH, WONDERING IF ANYBODY REALLY BUYS PATE ANYMORE, AND BUSY TAKING AUSTIN TO THE PARK AND THE LIBRARY, ETC. ETC.

So, some of my posts will be short. And apparently, some will be rants. Some will be rants followed by a list of my favorite cheeses to eat in Autumn. Some, like this one, will include a list of Austin's favorite cheeses as well. We do not need to list David's favorite cheeses because his family's roots are from that part of the Southern United States where they will eat anything. Nutria anyone?

In other words..oh fuck it. Here's the lists, with decent links where I could find them.

Austin's favorite cheeses...

Andante Dairy's Nocturne
Piave
Bucheron (everybody knows "bucheron", oui?)
Andante Dairy's Baton
Gruyere from Rolf Beeler

Meghan's Favorites for the Fall:

Shepherd's Wheel from Vermont Shepherd
Pleasant Ridge Reserve from Uplands Farm (Wisconsin)
Brebis Pyrenees from Herve Mons (not to be confused with Ossau Iraty)
Anything from Andante Dairy
Montgomery's Cheddar from Neal's Yard Dairy
2 milk Robiolas from Guffanti
Abbaye de Citeaux from Herve Mons
Ardrahan from Neal's Yard Dairy (It's Irish!)

Oh, and Beaufort! But only "Chalet d'alpage".

eating gabietou is like getting back part of your soul that you didn't know you were missing. At least that's what I think.

My god, I can't believe I just linked in a respone. Total cheese nerd here.

Happy Birthday Samin! I was thinking of you when I made up that cheese list.

Yup... the idea of Southerners eating Nutria just boggles the mind.
