So, the other day we had an earthquake. Yup, just like that. There was an earthquake. It shook our apartment for a while and then it stopped. Thank goodness it stopped.
What a laid back attitude! How Californian of me! Although I feel that I am not really a Californian , I just act like one frequently. Until somebody wants to eat dinner on the couch and then I turn all East Coast.

HOW ON EARTH CAN THIS BE A FAMILY DINNER WHEN WE ARE CUDDLED UP ON THE COUCH INSTEAD OF SITTING FORMALLY ACROSS FROM ONE ANOTHER WITH NAPKINS ON OUR LAPS?

But when I go back to acting like a Californian, when we are talking about things less important than dinner, you know smaller things like earthquakes, I'm all like, huh, we had one again? cool. So after the rather gentle shaking stopped, David and I pretty much went back to doing whatever we were doing that was working toward getting Austin in bed. Earthquake forgotten.

As I was cuddlng Austin to sleep, the boy asked, "Mommy, are earthquakes mammals or reptiles?"

I felt bad that I had to tell him that earthquakes are actually caused by tiny gnomes who stamp their feet when they get mad.

Oh, is that what causes them. I always wondered. :)

Yes, we truly are Californians. Next thing you know, I'll do something weird -- like become an acupuncturist.

Or join a cult...
